Note: Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) is a unit of competency within the Certificate III in Individual Support, Certificate IV in Ageing Support, and Certificate III in Hospitality courses and can be completed on its own. A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment (SoA) will be issued to the student upon successful completion.

Unit Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

During this short course students will actively work through a theory workbook before using first aid equipment to demonstrate their practical knowledge.

Upon completion of this course students will be able to effectively respond to emergency situations and apply for aid for:

  • Allergic reaction
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Bleeding control
  • Choking and airway obstruction
  • Strokes
  • Respiratory distress, including asthma
  • Shock
  • Drowning
  • Poisoning
  • Seizures
  • Envenomation, using pressure immobilisation
  • Fractures, sprains and strains, using arm slings, roller bandages or other appropriate immobilisation techniques

The unit applies to a range of workers within an educaiton and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthama and anaphylactic emergencies. This includes early childhood workers and educators who work with school age children in outside school hours care and vacation programs. 

During this short course students will actively work through a theory workbook before using first aid equipment to demonstrate their practical knowledge.

One Day Barista Course

Overview

Students will obtain important knowledge and skills about setting up, selecting coffee beans, taking espresso coffee orders, serving and cleaning coffee equipment under Australian Standards. Students who intend to work in the coffee industry and are required to prepare or serve coffee beverages must learn and develop those skills. Students who successfully complete their Barista course at Qii will meet these requirements and be able to demonstrate knowledge to work in the coffee industry in Australia.

Note: Introduction to Barista is a course that can be completed on its own. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued to students upon successful completion.

Course Application

This course will assess the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to extract and serve espresso coffee beverages using commercial espresso machines and grinders.

The course will train individuals on the requirements of the coffee industry such as, the ability to advise customers on coffee beverages, select and grind coffee beans, prepare and assess espresso coffee beverages and to use, maintain and clean espresso machines and grinders. Overall, this course incorporates the knowledge required to work in the coffee shop industry in Australia with a focus on the practice of the milk texturing process.

Preparing You for Work in the Hospitality Industry

This one-day short course prepares individuals to understand, prepare and present espresso-based coffee beverages within industry-realistic timeframes and Australian standards:

  • Organise and clean a coffee station, use a coffee machine, grinder and use the correct equipment to prepare a coffee beverage.
  • Understand the espresso coffee beverages consistency and quality based on appearance, aroma, body, crema, flavor and taste.
  • Prepare and present expresso-based coffee beverages within the commercial timeframes and Australian standards.
  • Undertake milk texturing process, how to serve and monitor quality indicators.
  • Advise customers with recommendations and take coffee orders.
